All about the OC Placement Test
Most frequent questions and answers
What is the Selective Placement Test?
Selective high schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates of their own academic standard.
When is the best time to start coaching?
The earlier the better, however, it’s never too late.
Typically, students undergo training in ‘test-taking techniques’ in Term 1 of Year 5. This gives you a full year to identify your child’s strengths and work towards minimizing their weaknesses.
What are Selective High Schools?
Selective high schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, using specialised teaching methods and materials. Selective high schools are unzoned so parents can apply regardless of where they live.
What is the test application process?
The application process is done online, through the NSW Government website.
When does the Selective Placement Test take place?
The Selective Placement Tests take place in March of Year 6.
What will my child be tested on?
The test is made up of the following subjects:
1. Mathematical Reasoning
2. Thinking Skills
3. Reading
4. Writing
“the best time to start was yesterday…the next best time to start is now!”
